Transfers are subject to time restrictions. You have 12 months from joining the LGPS to transfer your previous rights.
You may be able to transfer pension rights into the LGPS from:
- previous LGPS pension rights
- another workplace pension scheme
- a personal or stakeholder pension plan
- Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs)
You cannot transfer a pension credit into the LGPS.
We must use factors provided by the Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) for calculations. These factors can change from time to time.

Transfer deadline extension
Your employer can decide to allow you longer. This is an employer discretion. You can ask your employer and KCC Pension Section what their policy is on this matter.
If you have a reason for missing the 12 month deadline, you can request an extension from your employer. Complete the transfer in deadline extension request form. We forward the request to your employer.
