Your benefits are held in the LGPS until either:
- you decide to transfer them to another pension arrangement, or
- they are paid to you. Find out how your deferred benefits keep their value
We write to you when your deferred benefits are due for payment in full at your normal pension age.
Under some pension arrangements you can draw down or withdraw cash from your pension however this does not apply to your LGPS pension.
If your pension includes a lump sum, you must take it at the same time as your annual pension.
MyPension Online
Create an account or log in to MyPension Online to use the projector to calculate taking your deferred benefits at different dates from age 55.
Taking your deferred benefits
You can choose to take your deferred benefits from age 55, but they will be reduced for early payment. You may be able to defer payment after your normal pension age, and your benefits will be increased for later payment. They must be paid by age 75.
If your deferred benefit was awarded because you opted out of the scheme, you need to have left that post before payment of your deferred benefit can be made.
It is not possible to take some of your deferred benefit; all your deferred benefit is paid.
You can receive your deferred benefits at:
- normal pension age
- early payment due to permanent ill health at any age
- delayed payment after normal pension age
- early payment from age 55 and before normal pension age
